Sodium butyrate, or butyric acid, is a fatty acid that is formed during the digestion of dietary fiber by bacteria in the gut and plays an important role in the proper functioning of the digestive system.
It is also found in animal fats and vegetable oils, but the amount of butyric acid found in foods such as butter and ghee is small compared to the amount produced in the gut.
