WORMWOOD HERB TINCTURE 2 FL OZ

wormwood herb

--Artemisia absinthium

Artemisia absinthium, a perennial herbaceous plant, belongs to the Asteraceae family.

Wormwood's erect stems typically reach heights of 2-4 feet, occasionally extending to 5 feet or even higher. These silvery-green stems are grooved and branched, with fibrous roots supporting the plant.

The leaves of the herb exhibit a greenish-grey hue on the upper surface and are white underneath. Adorned with silky silvery-white trichomes and small oil-producing glands, the leaves are spirally arranged. Basal leaves, with a length of up to 25 cm, are bipinnate to tripinnate and possess long petioles. Cauline leaves on the stem are smaller, measuring 5–10 cm, less divided, and have short petioles. The uppermost leaves can be both simple and sessile, lacking a petiole.

Wormwood produces pale yellow tubular flowers, forming clustered spherical heads (capitula) that are bent-down. These capitula are further grouped in branched and leafy panicles. The flowering period spans from early summer to early autumn, and the plant's fruit takes the form of small achenes.

Common Names & Nomenclature: The botanical name pays homage to the Greek Goddess of the hunt, Artemis. The common name "wormwood" finds its roots in Middle English, known as wormwode or wermode.

Also Known As: Wormwood, absinthium, green ginger, absinthe, old woman, southernwood, grand wormwood, absinthe wormwood, common wormwood.

Features and further details

Wormwood, belonging to the aster family, is originally from Europe but has become naturalized across a significant portion of North America.

In times preceding the adoption of hops, wormwood played a role in flavoring beer and mead, a honey wine. Presently, it remains a primary flavoring component in beverages like absinthe and vermouth. For those practicing herbalism at home, wormwood finds prominent use in crafting herbal bitters.

Can tinctures be taken at any time of the day?

Tinctures can be taken at various times, depending on their intended purpose, the specific herb or combination of herbs, and the recommendations of a healthcare professional. Here are some general guidelines regarding the timing of tincture consumption:

  • With or Without Food: Some tinctures are better absorbed on an empty stomach, while others may be taken with food to minimize potential stomach upset. Always read the label or consult with a herbalist or healthcare provider.

  • Time of Day: Certain tinctures may have effects that dictate when they should be taken. For instance, tinctures with calming or sleep-promoting herbs like valerian or chamomile might be best taken in the evening. Conversely, energizing or stimulating herbs might be better taken in the morning or early afternoon.

  • Frequency: Depending on the purpose, some tinctures may be taken several times a day, while others might be taken once daily or even less frequently.

  • Duration: Some tinctures can be taken for extended periods, while others are best used for shorter durations with breaks in between. For example, echinacea is often recommended for short-term use.

  • Interactions with Medications: It's essential to consider potential interactions with medications. Some tinctures can interfere with the absorption, metabolism, or efficacy of certain drugs.

  • Special Populations: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and individuals with specific health conditions or on certain medications should consult a healthcare professional before using tinctures.

  • Absorption: Taking tinctures sublingually (under the tongue) can allow for quicker absorption into the bloodstream compared to swallowing.

  • Alcohol Content: Most tinctures are alcohol-based, which helps extract the medicinal components of the herb and acts as a preservative. If someone avoids alcohol for personal, health, or religious reasons, they might look for alcohol-free tinctures or use other herbal preparations.

Administration Guidelines:

Our meticulously crafted tinctures comprise 40%-80% Pure grain alcohol to ensure prolonged freshness and potency. Recognizing the sharpness of alcohol, here are some tips to make its consumption more palatable:

  • Direct Approach: Dispense the drops beneath the tongue for quick absorption and follow immediately with a drink of water, juice, or your preferred beverage to mask the taste.

  • Diluted Method: Mix the tincture in a small amount of water or your chosen drink and consume it as a whole.

  • For Younger Connoisseurs: If you're offering this tincture to individuals below 21 years, or for those sensitive to alcohol's bite, there are alternatives. You can either expose the tincture to air for a while or warm it gently, ensuring a very low heat setting. This process accelerates the evaporation of the alcohol (which vaporizes quicker than water), rendering the tincture milder for consumption, Or Explore our range below for non-alcoholic tinctures and extract alternatives.
