An extraction of organic witch hazel bark in organic vegetable glycerin giving a combined astringent and humectant in one product.
A clear, yellow to brown extract from organic witch hazel using organic glycerin as the method of extraction. This means that there is no preservative in this ingredient although a suitable preservative should be used when it is combined into a product. It has the faint smell of witch hazel.
Inci:
Glycerin, Aqua, Hamamelis virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark Extract
How to use it :
Skin Care
Most commonly thought of as an astringent, it is excellent for oily and combination skin as the glycerin content helps to keep the skin moisturised. Use in products for acne prone skin and problem skin.
Its natural antibacterial properties make it a good choice to use in deodorants where it helps to slow down the development of the bacteria that make sweat smell.
Very refreshing to use in aftershave toners and spritzes for its bracing effect on the skin as well as helping to heal minor nicks and cuts.
Effective in cleansers for all skin types as it is cooling and soothing.
Hair Care
No specific hair care use but it will tone a greasy scalp with its astringency.
Other
Use at 3% to 6%. It is safe to use at higher amounts but there is a possibility that the end product may feel a little sticky.
Water soluble so cannot be used in oil only blends.
Already contains glycerin so there is no need to add any more.
Once opened do not leave the cap off the bottle whilst you are working and after use, squeeze some of the air out of the bottle to reduce potential oxidation and seal tightly. Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from freezing and direct sunlight.
Suggested Blends
As it is often used in oily skin creams and lotions, combine with low freezing point oils like Hazelnut oil to help oily skin behave more like normal skin.
Cautions/Contraindications
None although it may feel too tight on the skin if used in higher levels.
Recipes :
Stage 1: (above 75°C)
74% Boiled Spring Water
-------------
2% EmulsiGel 10% Witch Hazel Glycerol Extract (Organic)
Stage 2: (above 60°C)
7% Hazelnut Oil
3% Thistle Oil
Stage 3: (below 40°C)
2% Vitamin E
1% Preservative 12
0.75% Palmarosa Essential Oil
0.25% Geranium Essential Oil
100% Total
Method:
Mix the EmulsiGel Eco with the Glycerol Extract and then add to the hot water. Stick blend until thickened.
Add the stage 2 oils to stage 1 and stick blend briefly to combine.
Cool down in a pan of cold water whilst stirring with a spatula - not the stick blender.
Add stage 3 ingredients and stir again. Jar and label.
