The small, red Hawthorn Berries are tart in taste and are used in many different ways culinarily throughout the world. The true potential of this fruit lies however in its medicinal properties. As far back as the first century, people have recognized the value of Hawthorn Berries in benefitting the heart and aiding digestion.
How does it work?
Hawthorn Berries work by increasing the flow of oxygen through the heart, assisting the digestion of fats and oils, and reducing inflammation of blood vessels. Hawthorn Berries contain flavanoids and proanthocyanins, along with high levels of procyanadins. These help give the berries many of their health benefitting attributes. The most notable flavanoid that it contains is vitexin, which produces antioxidant effects.
