Calea zacatechichi, also known as dream herb, bitter grass or Thepelakano (Leaves of the Gods), has been used by Mexican shamans and by other indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Native to Central America, it has a long traditional use by the Chontal Maya and other indigenous groups for beneficial mental properties, especially lucid dreaming. Shamans have been known to use the dream herb to induce prophetic dreams, and it is considered a sacred herb to many indigenous groups.
C. zacatechichi, also called C. ternifolia, is bitter-tasting and has a long traditional use of being brewed into a tea for dream enhancement, including experiencing vivid longer dreams and awareness and control of the dreams. For this reason, it is recommended to be taken prior to sleep. To make dream herb tea, steep 2-4 grams (about 0.4 tsp-0.8 tsp) in one cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink prior to bedtime.
